![]() ![]() Postinstallation of "grub.efi" is also not possible, why? As much I know by postinstallation you assign the drive/partition where you want to install EFI, hence is not a matter of confusion. And believe me I start the USB in UEFI-mode. boot/ in etx2-format) but is impossible to install a distri (tried a lot of them) in UEFI-mode from a Live-USB with persistenz, this is a fact. Maybe you/we can install on GPT using extra boot-partition (e.g. The Live-USB have not a EFI-System-Partition. (The Mint installer calls the ESP the "EFI boot partition," IIRC.) If I'm right, then installing from a USB flash drive would still be possible if you paid careful attention to what the installer set as the ESP, and overrode it if necessary. I'm far from 100% certain of this explanation, though. When you used a DVD for installation, OTOH, there was no competing ESP, so the installer used the ESP on the hard disk, and all went well. That might have failed for any number of reasons. My suspicion is that in your case, the system became confused about where it was installing the boot loader when you booted from the USB flash drive - it may have treated the flash drive's EFI System Partition (ESP) as the computer's ESP, and therefore tried to install the boot loader there. In fact, I'm typing this on an EFI-based computer with an ext2fs /boot partition. I can say this with certainty both on theoretical grounds and because I've used ext2fs on EFI-based and GPT-based computers. There's absolutely no incompatibility between ext2fs and either GPT or EFI. Your solution may work, but your presumed cause isn't correct. ![]()
